At Urban Wolf, we have been working with dogs for over 15 years. During our time, training methods have changed, research findings have developed and ideologies constantly shift. Teaching a client to dominate their dog and become the pack leader is somewhat outdated as the modern day dog couldn't be further from a wolf in its pack. Your dog is now the Urban Wolf!
There are two basic methods of training your dog - positive and negative reinforcement. Modifying undesirable dog behaviours with verbal or physical corrections is not the preferred training system in practice today. Most experts in the animal behavioural field would recommend positive reinforcement as the primary method of teaching. The promotion of reward based training using food, praise or even clickers - a quicker audible reward system - as the marker are now most popular.

If you want a well-mannered dog, you must teach the manners you require and reward your dog when it behaves correctly. Your dog must be taught - they cannot establish good manners by themselves. To change any undesirable behaviours in your dog, you simply reward the good behaviour and remove that reward for any negative behaviour. This is sometimes easier said than done, however, these positive training techniques give great results.
Whilst we do promote reward motivated techniques, it is unrealistic to accept this as the only effective method. The correct use of a halti or gentle leader, for example, will still give you a well mannered dog.
With all the different training methods available, our primary focus is to promote responsible dog ownership and gentle dog handling. At Urban Wolf, this starts with caring for, feeding, housing and socialising your dog.
